Help! tell me which alonetone.com logo YOU would choose

November 24th, 2007 @ 02:02 PM

Hi!

I've been pouring 80% of my free creative energy towards getting the first iteration of aLoneTone.com online.

What is alonetone?

  • A "home" for DIY musicians to easily and freely upload, publish, share, and organize their own music
  • A way for musicians to more easily connect to a shared audience (bypassing industry, taking advantage of our collective network, etc)
  • A place where listeners and fans of the musicians can "reach through the musicians they know" and find other artists making great free music.

How is alonetone different then XYZ?

  • Not a company, just a community. Free of advertising or costs. Music centered, not industry centered.
  • No hype, or imaginary promises of this being 'first step to get into the industry!!!!'
  • Makes it much simpler then existing tools to share and track listens on uploaded music, without limits or charges.
  • Casual listeners and passerbys are presented with the favorites of the artist community. If they are visiting one artist they know/love, they have the option explore the site from the point of view of that artist's taste.

Really, when it first launches (really really soon now) it's going to be a pretty basic tool for artists. We'll see what direction it takes.

So - I would love your help in picking a logo. 3 wonderful and talented designers have been kind enough to cook up one or two logos each, and we now have so many choices for a logo that I really can't settle on anything. Each of these is just a first sketch, so just let me know which one captures you the most!

Here they are, let me know what you think in the comments:

The 2nd one down from the top is the one I would chose. There is a single pure note coming from the tuning fork. And music all around.

  • Lil on 24 Nov 16:59

My favorite is the 5th one down: The sassy looking note with headphones who is intensely listening to music! (maybe if he turned it down a little he wouldn't look like he was in pain! But it made me laugh.) My second choice is the last one. Although it is a gentler logo is is also "offering music" to the world.

Your concept is a great idea BTW, and clearly explained for people like moi!

  • Alec on 24 Nov 21:22

I vote for the last one with the hand. It is clean and I like the idea of sharing/offering the music to the listener.

    This project sounds cool!!!

  • ben on 24 Nov 21:36

the first one is my favorite.

  • sudara on 24 Nov 21:40

uh oh, looks like it is going to be close!

  • davey on 24 Nov 21:53

the 1st one is going to be my next tattoo

  • sudara on 24 Nov 23:22

A lot of people who I talk to who haven't commented here have said:

They like the last one, if the color combo was stronger, or different.

They like the note with headphones, if it wasn't so 'angry'

  • Brandon on 25 Nov 01:08

The headphone note has a mascot quality and would probably be good for popular appeal. Personally I like the last one.

  • davey on 26 Nov 04:23

to be honest, the first one is looking better and better.

  • davey on 26 Nov 04:23

    YES THAT'S RIGHT. HONESTY.

  • ben on 26 Nov 17:09

David, is it because the note is an F? or an A? What makes you tick, big brother? Or do you possibly remember seeing this design before the current line up?

  • David on 27 Nov 00:19

I like the 1st one because it doesn't look sleek. It has more of a home-made feel to it than the others, which look new-age. I like the colors.

  • Sudara on 27 Nov 12:03

It doesn't look sleek because I made it!

I want to stay away from super-sleek, and far far away from corporate, but I still would like it to look nice and professional. I'm pouring a lot of my heart and soul into the project and not only does it make me feel better when it looks nice, but it is a bit more attractive to people who could get some good use from it!

Cesar, Jess, and Samo did a good job, I think. They must have - there seems to be 0 consensus about which one to pick! Everyone has their favorites.

  • davey on 27 Nov 16:27

certainly. i still like the 4th one and the last one a whole lot.

  • ben on 27 Nov 19:33

i feel like i've seen the first one before. maybe this design leaked sometime in the last year? i wonder if this is why i think it seems right.

  • Brandon on 28 Nov 06:40

On a second review, the last one holds up the best for me.

  • lil on 28 Nov 07:15

This litany of comments is beginning to sound like a twisted musician's comedy routine! Sudara I have no idea how you are going to make a final choice! PS The "angry note with headphones" is going to be MY next tattoo....

  • sudara on 28 Nov 15:16

    @ben:

I made this about a week before i put it up on the site, so it must just be reminiscent of my other 1990's-looking web design work ;)

The end solution rests in Samo's hands, who is handling the layout and design of the first draft. I'm guessing he'll riff of the last one or come up with something new.

Things are going ok with the development in general - slow, but steady. There should be a working version very sooooooooon, albeit basic as hell.

  • andy on 02 Dec 07:38

I belatedly vote for the last - Hmm - I like the fact that the name of the site is completely antithetical to the cause/content

  • Jesse on 11 Feb 13:03

I really like the last one. Very appropriate; it just needs some text. My second choice is the tuning fork one. Good luck!
