alonetone is coming along....slowly!
Back from vacation, I put in a good amount of work to move alonetone closer to a stable release.

A few of the new treats!
- You can now upload a zip file of mp3s
- Musicians can create playlists and add any track on the site
- Playlists can be easily reordered
- Musicians get an overview of who is listening to their stuff and when
- The 'bug report' area in the bottom right is working, so please submit your comments!
- Very rudimentary sharing functionality implemented
We're probably another two weeks from a solid release, when I'll start shouting down the internet corridors asking the general public to signup.
There's still some juicy stuff coming, including some kick ass options for taking the music off-site, and (ahem!) a general cleanup of the design and look and feel.
I'd LOVE to have more feedback - go on already and sign up on alonetone! Even if you are not a musician you can still browse and create playlists from the growing collection of wonderful music that is up there.

The biggest question I have is:
Is it worth implementing comments?
I find myself wanting to tell people how much I like their music when I listen to their stuff, but at the same time, I want the site to stay music-based and not drift away into 'social network' land!
-
yeah... maybe you can implement the comment thing, and then if it becomes too networky you can rearrange things. (although i think it would stay under control.)
or you can write a comment disclaimer that it must be only about the music at hand. and also reserve the right to delete extraneous stuff.
it should just be about the music.

in other news, alonetone made it into my quick link bar in firefox.
-
by the way, i think it would be cool to have the title just be "alonetone" and let people figure out for themselves what it actually is. or maybe just "alone tone - a damn fine home"
-
Hey davey, thanks for signing up!
I bet you are right about the comments - they can only do good, and we have control after all regarding how prominent they are.
Regarding the title - Right now, I feel making it crystal clear what the site is and what it provides, so that people who just happen upon the site feel welcome and informed, especially if they are someone who could benefit from the services. Also, the page title and text plays a big role for search engines, allowing us to be seen when people are looking for something like us.
