Here is me running through a song I have big plans for. I really love this guitar part, and have a nice bassline to go with.
Meanwhile, I've been spending my nights moving alonetone along. It's almost ready to handle a couple brave souls who want to play with it in über-beta.
You bought it - redux
Written years ago with a heaping of helpings from Bennemy Ribbles.
Lyrics written a little over in 2005 somewhere in Europe.
Played often in Portugal, in the subways in Lisbon, and in Innsbruck.
Recorded once upon a time in lisbon at a friends, but low-fi and single track.
I play it sometimes around the house.
I woke up today early at 8am and suddenly thought - "Work can wait, maybe I'll do some recording"
Holding to the 'release early, release often' ideal, here's what I have as of noon. Next up: Piano, and filling the chorus out.
The last thing I recorded.
I'm juggling 3 songs right now, none of them want to birth quite yet, but I'm getting my studio stack tuned and hopefully will pump out at least a few rough cuts soon.
The last one I did any recording on was "Lay down and weep"
Here's the first taste, which a few of you guys have heard already!
Marlena sings on this one.
The Park, A Feist Cover.
I never do cover songs. I'm the opposite of a jukebox guitar player, only knowing songs I've written, and only able to play songs that I've been playing recently. Call it laziness, self-centered, or just strange, it is what it is.
Here's a hiss-filled cover song, however, of "The Park" written by Feist. Man, can she sing. I used to listen to this song on repeat as means of a calming escape whenever things would get nuts at my last job.
Bucelas part I
This is a song about a place called Bucelas.
I play it a lot, it is a fun guitar song.
Before uploading it here I asked my girlfriend Marlena "Is this recording too sad?"
Normally when I play this song I walk around the room bouncing a little bit. In general I think of it as a carefree song. It kept me company for many months, kept me awake, happy, aware, connecting with others.
After recording it today I noticed the song seemed to care a little more than usual.
She responded: "It is like a person. A person has many moods. This is just one of them."
[first draft] Orgiva
Orgiva is a place in Spain.
Beautiful.
I stayed there a few days after living outside of Lisbon for 3 months.
The guitar technique in this song was taught to me by Mauricio from Buenos Aires while we were both in Portugal.
The song is written for my mother for her birthday, which is today.
Of course it's not done yet! When is it?
[rough] You've been wanting to
I barely could get through it - I recorded it for my father, I really wanted him to have a copy for his belated birthday.
In the spirit of sharing the process, here it is.
so what? - second take from golden studios
Another song from recent times...
A few weeks ago I recorded a just-acoustic version and also a version with my friend Ben Wuamett (living in Berlin) with alternate lyrics.
I dream of a filled version.
Here is the in-between mess!
Enjoy!
First take from Golden Studios
I got the magic box that means I'm able to produce and record sound at a close-to-professional level again!
Now I just have to remember how to use a mic!
Enjoy!
momentum
building back up
I’m 1 piece of equipment away from having a home recording studio back up and running.
Then, I’ll have lots to share.
For now, you can listen to a few old songs from the last year below (warning: quality varies!) or check out the albums from yesteryear.
love to you, sudara
